Hi all,

I am new to Austria and, unfortunately, don't speak German yet.

Could someone please explain if prostitution in Austria is legal and if a man visits a prostitute, massagestudio/ studio etc, can he get into trouble?

What are the risks involved (obviously i am aware of the health risks!)?

Many thanks for your help.

Regards

Dave

Hey Dave!

I don´t know where you are from but believe me when it comes to prostitiution Austria and Germany are the greatest countries in the world. It is totally legal here to visit a hooker in a studio, laufhaus, nightclub....

The only thing that can get you in trouble is when you pick up a street hooker and when you do it in a public place (e.g. park, garage, car..).

If you have any questions you can sent me a p.m.

its mostly legal indoors but not on the street!! except 2 places (auhof and messestrasse near the prater).

You asked about Austria but since your profile shows that you are in Vienna you should be aware that street prostitution in this city has recently been drastically curtailed. Currently, the only legal zones for street hookers are around the Admiral Casino (silly place, near the Prater) and the Auhof (I don't know where the fuck that is).

You mention "health risks". Bareback sex with whores is quite common in Vienna. If you stick to girls / ladies who work legally and have themselves regularly checked by the authorities these risks are in my opinion (and according to my personal experience!) quite minimal.

Have a good time! :winke:

bareback sex isn't that common in austria. Only a few girls offer this kind of service.
In general, prostitute have to register themselves by the authorities. Registration means, that the girl is checked by a doctor every week. This minimalize the health risk. If you meet prostitutes in the better looking clubs (for example golden time, babylon or fun palast), you will meet only registered prostitutes. This is the same with the better escort agencies. The health risk is very small there.

Thanks for the replies!

One last question- I've looked at some of the websites that advertise studios/ services, such as Bazar etc, some of the places appear to be operated out of apartments rather than a 'shop' with a sign. Are they legal/ safe too?
How can i be sure that the girls are registered and having health checks etc

Thanks again

Maybe in Tyrol but Vienna is quite good. Great Girls here so enjoy :)
If you have questions pm

Ask her to show you the registration document ("Deckel"), and check when it was last signed by the doc. However, it is of little value, as those examinations are more of a bureocratic nuisance than anything else.

Our colleague Spanner36 misunderstood my comment. I wrote that bareback paysex is relatively common IN VIENNA. In the rest of the country it is indeed unusual.

I don't think you'd have to worry about places that advertise in the Kontaktbazar, including those "operated out of apartments".

If you're concerned about the health checks, you could politely ask a studio girl if you might see her green card (grüne Karte) which should be stamped by the authorities (in Vienna, the MA in the third ward) after each visit.

Generally speaking, if you go to a Laufhaus (bigger places, such as Laufhaus Vienna or Juchgasse) you are safe concerning legal issues. If you go to appartments or places that do not openly advertise sexual services, you might start having doubts. This goes for escort services and massage salons, too: Most of them do not openly sell sexual services. Thus they can avoid to have their girls checked and getting the "Green Card", saving them bureaucratic troubles, but also bringing more doubt about their health status - this is where you enter the grey zone and might get in trouble as a client, though it seems it is relatively rare for clients to get in trouble, from what i hear and read.

These apartments (and quite a few other locations) have a problematic legal status and theoretically (AFAIK no one had to pay until now) you may be be fined up to €500 if caught in the act. This situation will be aggravated by 1th Nov when a new law comes into effect. Basically NONE of these apartments are fulfilling the required criteria. Even most of the regular studios with street entrance will run into problems. (Emergency exit and other stuff)

Approximately only a third of the prostitutes working in Vienna have a permit (combined with a weekly health check). This check (already mentioned previously) is more of a nuisance than anything else... Examination is IMHO rather superficially. (eg blood is tested rather seldom and most relevant diseases are only detectable AFTER a certain time period anyway)

Austria is a too small Country to have good Prostitution!

Sorry, but where the hills are going higher, the horizont in going to come near by.- I´ll told, forget this.
Anyway, for example in Tyrol Prostitution is forbitten, exept the changed therir laws in the past.

This mentioned by the State, and Districtregulation, so attand, where and what.

By these idea, Lichtenstein and Luxenburg are to small for banks, or what ?
Monaco is to small for a Casino, or what ?

I know, that Tirol is different to the east of Austria.
The Hills are higher and restrain the view of some people, a phrase tell.

die Überschrift kann genauso gut Englisch sein. Da merkt man wieder mal, wie nah Deutsch und Englisch eigentlich sind.

I think my pig is whistling. What speech are you writing? Where the hills are going higher, the people are becoming stranger...
